Protecting Your Smile for a Lifetime

Dental implants are one of the most advanced and reliable ways to replace missing teeth. With proper maintenance, they can last decades—or even a lifetime. At Renu Prosthodontics, we believe that caring for your dental implants is just as important as getting them placed. Our goal is to help you restore, enhance, nurture, and unite your smile for long-term health and confidence.

Why Implant Care Matters

While dental implants don’t decay like natural teeth, the surrounding gums and bone need continuous support. Without proper care, peri-implantitis (inflammation or infection around the implant) can occur, threatening the stability of your restoration. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene and regular professional checkups ensures your implants remain strong, functional, and beautiful.

Daily Implant Care at Home

  1. Brush Twice Daily
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to gently clean around the implant crown and gumline. Electric toothbrushes can also be very effective.

  2. Floss or Use Interdental Brushes
Clean the spaces between implants and natural teeth using specialized floss or interdental brushes designed for implants. Water flossers can also be an excellent addition.

  3. Rinse with Antimicrobial Mouthwash
Helps reduce bacteria that cause inflammation and keeps your gums healthy.

  4. Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods
Especially during the healing phase, avoid chewing on hard objects or sticky foods that could stress the implant.

Professional Maintenance Visits

Routine checkups are essential for long-term implant success. During your visits at Renu Prosthodontics, we will:

  • Evaluate your implants, gums, and bite alignment

  • Perform professional cleanings using implant-safe instruments

  • Monitor bone levels and tissue health with radiographs when needed

  • Reinforce personalized home care instructions

We recommend maintenance appointments every 3–6 months, depending on your individual needs.

Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Contact our office right away if you notice any of the following:

  • Bleeding or swollen gums around your implant

  • Looseness or mobility of the implant or crown

  • Persistent discomfort, pain, or unusual sensations

  • Changes in your bite or chewing pattern

Early detection and care can prevent minor irritation from turning into a serious problem.
